[MR] lowering event fees

two things that i feel need to be brought up.

the first one is to remember that when you are talking to a site owner about
renting their facility that you should be negotiating with them. just like
any business that you are entertaining they need to have their site used.
for example the last time i was involved wth getting site, besty jeff penn,
i talked with them about using their site on easter weekend. knowing that
the site would be empty i used that for leverage and got it for $600 less
than what they told me when we first talked some three or four weeks
earlier. not much money overall but it did give us more wiggle room and we
were able to lower the event fees.

second, the calendar is way overfilled with too many cookie cutter events.
event stewards really need to focus more on what they are offering to those
they wish to attract. more attention should be paid to the question "will
those leaving the event think to themselves how much value they got for
their money?". so many events offer little more than a field and maybe a
lackluster feast. the goal should be to ensure that those in attendance
leave the event thinking "wow, that was a great event. i cant wait until
next year!". if the event ends up being worth the money folks will leave
satisfied and will return next time.
