One solution, or help, will be to find more sites. those who have never autocrated an event need to know that more and more places require bigger deposits, and often ban alcohol, because their insurance liability is much higher if they allow it. all expenses are going up, so sites have to pass the costs on to the rent. Then there are rising food costs, so the feast costs more.  Most of us are hurting in this economy and I know autocrats, our barons and baronesses and even our royalty are keeping an eye on choosing events that keep  costs down for everyone. 
 A merchant at con carolinas told me that he is already clearing land inside sacred stone and they plan to host a renaissance faire every year and also let the sca rent the site. they plan to have a jousting field, archery,tourney area,(supposedly cleared last weekend)and merchant area the first year, then plan to add a heated and air conditioned bath house, and even a great hall with kitchen, as money comes in over the next few years. They were checking out elchenburg castle last weekend and listening to people about what they wanted. They are new to the SCA and love it. hopefully this time next year, we will have another site in atlantia and sacred stone to choose from.
