[MR] Suggestion for helping daytrip fees

As an autocrat of a recent $5 event and as a SCAdian with a family, I
DO think that event daytrip fees are something to take into
consideration. For example, I'd dearly love to go to the Metalsmith
Syposium and teach a class or two but the $20 daytrip fee is a HUGE
factor in my decision. (Plus another $10 for camping!) I cannot
justify spending that kind of money on top of gas, plus the outlay in
advance of my class for supplies. It's sad for me, because I'd really
enjoy the event.
Something I've seen implemented is a "family cap" to keep the costs
down for families. I can see that adult daytrippers, who come for
fighting and then a shower, use the same resources as overnighters,
but if a couple has three kids, for example, an overall cap on cost is
a good, good thing.
Oh, and that $5 event? We had the best turnout for this event (Feast
of St. Pyr in March) that it has ever had, and the low event fee for
adults (free for kids) was a big factor. We used a beautiful and
primitive site in a national forest that had outhouses already
present. The fee was the same regardless of daytripping or camping.
The feast was potluck, and there was more than enough food and drink
for everyone to eat their fill. Everyone seemed to have a great time,
at least judging by the enthusiastic bardic that night.
Best wishes,
Aneira
