[MR] is that narcissism?

It's not so much that it's narcissism, or elitism, or bigotry, or anything
of that sort. It's that this is an SCA oriented mailing list. This has
nothing to do with liking or not liking the discussion at hand ... it's
about whether or not it's relevant to a topic. I fail to see any way that it
is relevant any more, as it's gone from "Should the SCA stop boy scout..."
to "Boy Scouts is the antichrist because...".

Why do I have to delete all of the emails that are not SCA related just to
enjoy the things that are SCA related? Do I not get enough spam, and I need
more to delete? (hint: I get plenty) I've been a list member for a week and
it's already gone from a fun hobby to frustration, near apathy, and ready to
unsubscribe permanently.

I don't pick up a book on house construction and expect to have half the
content about how cruel it is that sharks are eating baby seals. I pick it
up because I want to read about house construction. I don't care about the
baby seals, but if I did, I'd probably pick up a book about them, join a
forum about them, etc, and focus my energy on that subject in the proper
place for it. I'll expand upon this below, with links.

It's looking like the topic of refusing to do any boy scout demos because of
their religious, moral, or ethical views is making some as much of an
elitist as they are claiming the boy scouts to be. They're implying "You're
such close-minded idiots, we're not going to do any demos for you, even
though the kids would enjoy it, because we think YOUR way of thinking is
wrong and YOUR religious views are wrong." Pot, meet kettle.

A few off-topic posts are fine. Aquariums for sale, kitty needs a home, ride
needed to work, recommendations on medication ... a single off topic post
with a request to discuss offline is normal and I don't frown upon it at
all. But, PLEASE let this topic die.

I'm going to make it easy for the people who don't want to.

I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities to discuss the subject in any of
those areas ... and probably without much objection, since it's relevant to
the subject. Start up a discussion there, post a link to your topic if you
must, and then let's get back to SCA discussions on an SCA mailing list....
