I assure you barter is alive and well in our community, however, I have looked into these groups and found the structure perhaps makes a bit more sense than our "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" way of thinking.

We have so many "worker bees" in the SCA who never seem to just relax.  That of course is their choice..as service seems to be an addiction to some and an illness to others. But if we adopted this form of ledger system...1 hours service=$1 in "service bucks" we could ensure that when our worker bees need help they cold easily "hire" a staff to help them.

Of course there is also the issue that some people would become millionaires in accumulated "service bucks" because lets face it, service junkies have a problem asking for help.

This is a good idea. I've long wanted to see this as an option. Just sad it took a recession like this to bring it back.

Just saw 
this article, thought it interesting.... On one hand, I like the idea, 
and on the other hand, it's a sad sign of our economy today...
