Gee, sounds like neighborhoods of the 1950s, 1850s, ..., 650s.  People in the community helped where their skills were needed and people with other skill sets ehlpwed where they were needed.  We have just forgotten most of it in the "modern world" with our hurrier life.

artering is an awesome system. More people should get back to it. 
 
My husband I barter A LOT.
 
We have more than once bartered for vacations (guys owns a marina and needs a 
ebsite, for instance. He owns a sweet luxury houseboat. Or someone with a beach 
ouse on Kiowa. Favors are worth more than the sum of their parts.)
 
Heck, a guy at our church is a landscaper, so he takes care of the grounds over 
here. So we take care of stuff like business cards, flyers, etc for his 
usiness. No money changes hands. 
 
It's a pretty cool way to do business, actually. And yeah, no taxes change 
ands, either. More people ought to do it.
