Thank you Lady Richenda!
And to the local canton & shire folk,
The tapestries are not the only thing that may be of interest as well.
The main collection has works that would be of interest with works
ranging from ancient to "SCA time period" and of course contemporary
or more modern peices. The museum's online catalog is extensive but I
can tell you that nothing quite compares to seeing with your own eyes
the details of the brush strokes and the tiny details or the almost
life like polished stone...whenever I travel I try my best to work in
an art museum visit- this one just happens to be in our "back yard".
Not an artist or scribe? That doesn't mean it's not for you. There are
many details from art that can be of "use". Whether that is the detail
in a particular article of clothing or armor or even the feast ware in
the background... I could go on an on. :0)
That being said I know there was an interest in going to this exhibit
here in Cyddlain Downs (Columbia, SC area). I think it was in relation
to the symposium however that was in June. Is there anyone interested
in going to just the exhibit since its here until September? I checked
and there are pretty reasonable hours and fees...
(http://www.columbiamuseum.org/visit/) Also to note; Wednesdays are a
BOGO day where one non-member adult fee ($10) gets you one free adult
admission. But there is also ~**FREE**~ admission on Sundays thanks to
Blue Shield/Blue Cross of SC. I called the museum and the special
exhibits are included in the general admission (whether you pay or go
to the free Sunday).
The first three Sundays in August look free on the Kingdom calendar as
far as events are concerned (please correct me if I am wrong) so maybe
a post-Pennsic museum visit ought to be a spledid idea to a Sunday
afternoon?
