Let us go to the pleasure gardens, come my sauntering cypress.
Just you and I, and a singer with exquisite airs -- and yet
Another: with your kind permission, Nedim, the mad poet.
Let us go to the pleasure gardens, come my sauntering cypress...
- Nedim (Song)
Translated by Talât Sait Halman
Come friends, to Bright Hills' Birthday at the Bazaar, February 13, 2010, and let the warmth, color, and music drive all thoughts of winter from your mind. Join us and be beguiled by bards, tempted by merchants from distant lands, and tantalized by the aromas of delicacies from the hands of the famed chefs of Bright Hills.
And speaking of the chefs, RESERVE YOUR SPACE AT THE FEAST NOW. ONLY 10 FEAST SPACES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR. [And now, back to your regular event announcement.]
Bring your special someone and all your friends and family as we celebrate romance in true SCA style, WITH A&S COMPETITIONS:
A&S BARONIAL CHAMPION
Master Tristan, the current A&S champion has chosen the theme. "Always the Best From The Bright Hills." Entries should be work done in the past year that you think is your best! No restriction on what type of art, it can be anything from illumination to armor and everything in between! Documentation is encouraged but not required (extra points for having it).
Those entering the other competitions being held for the day can be part of this. If you enter something in any of the other A&S competitions and want your entry to also be considered for A&S champion, please let the judges know, so it can be counted and judged.
BEST USE OF BARONIAL BADGE
A competition sponsored by Her Excellency, Martelle von Charlottenburg, in hopes it will stir your imagination to find the most creative use of the Baronial populace badge.
"FLAVORS FROM AFAR" (a cooking competition)
Enter a dish using exotic spices that would have been available in period in a Middle Eastern Bazaar. Documentation is required. Our judges will sample your entries but the remainder of the dish will go to High Table as a treat during feast.
Since the kitchen will not be available to use, you will need to prepare your dish prior to arriving at the event. We may be able to accommodate crock pots or slow cookers if your dish must be warm. Kindly advise in advance if that is the case. This competition is sponsored by Chagan Khulan, Baghsi.
"BEST MIDDLE-EASTERN Love POEM"
Let your pen speak words to win the heart of your beloved, in a Middle-Eastern style. (Those seeking inspiration need only open a Bible to the Song of Solomon.) Sponsored by Lady Katarzyna Nowina Witkowska.
“A TABLE FOR THE SULTAN”
A competition is offered for dressing your feast table with style! There will a prize for the best Middle-Eastern dressed table, and should the judges be so moved, other prizes may be available in categories such as “Most Opulent,” “Most Colorful,” or “Most Beautiful.” Sponsored by Lady Yseulte Trevelyn

beer/ale
wine/mead
cordials
non-alcoholics
with recognition and prizes for best presentation, overall winner and Baronial Brewer.
You may enter as many categories as you wish, but may offer only two entries in each category. If there is only one entry in a category, it will be the judges discretion as to whether a prize is awarded. To be considered for Baronial Brewer, you must enter in at least 2 categories. We will use the standard Atlantian Brewing Competition Judging form.
A&S DISPLAY: In addition to the competitions, there will ALSO be space for displays of completed projects and works in progress seeking commentary.
