support french efforts would bring their use to English eyes, but in my time
and earlier the missile weapons were bows and crossbows.

There were several guns of all sizes, including cannon and arquebus aboard the
Mary Rose, which went down in 1545. Inventories show she was armed with cannon
at construction, and re-armed as technology advanced. There were also
hand-held firearms found.
The Mary Rose was sailing into battle when she sank.

Many of the pirate expeditions to the caribbean in the 16th C were sponsored
in part by the queen. Usually she contributed by lending the expedition one or
more of her warships, all of which carried firearms.
