Good morrow my dear cousins, on this overcast St. Stephen's Day in fair
Northern Atlantia!
In the midst of winter my thoughts are turning to spring cleaning. ((Yes,
it's the day after Christmas and I'm bored. lol!)) With spring cleaning
comes the re-arranging of things, and I have a question: does anyone know of
online plans for that item of furniture known as a prie-dieu? Or has anyone
made one that they are happy with, the plans for which they are willing to
share? Ja, there is a connection to these two otherwise somewhat disparate
concepts. :) A prie-dieu is a standalone kneeler for use when praying,
usually at home. They figure in many paintings and illuminations, and are
usually fairly simple in design: a place to kneel connected to uprights on
which a book stand usually features, where one can rest a prayer book or
one's elbows if the Bishop isn't watching.
I found a lovely late-period-looking one for sale in a catalogue this
season, but the one in my mind's eye is less Victorian-redactionesque and
more Gothic-y looking. I got some tools for Christmas and want to try them
out... :) Does anyone know of basic or even intricate prie-dieu plans in
existence? It would be wonderful to be able to come up with some on my own,
but my spatial abilities are somewhat hampered these days and it's just not
something I am able to do.
Hoping you are all enjoying the quiet of the weekend before the madness that
is New Year's, I am
Yours in service,
Meli
