Unto the Populace of the Kingdom of Atlantia:
It is but eight short weeks before February the 5th is upon us, along with the
Kingdom Arts and Sciences Festival. And at KASF will be held the two premier
A&S Competitions in the Kingdom. To wit: the Persona Pentathlon and the Youth
Triathlon. These competitions are open to all: Peers and Newcomers alike.
Please spread the word and encourage both adults and children to enter.
How it Works: To enter the Pentathlon (or the Triathlon) you must produce five
(three) articles, all of which would have been used by or associated with a
particular persona within a particular time frame. Note that the persona you
pick does NOThave to be your own. These five (or three) articles must cover at
least three (two) categories from the category list on the Registration sheet.
The Registration form (and all the judging forms) can be found at:
http://moas.atlantia.sca.org/forms.htm Do not just limit yourself to items that
fit neatly into the Categories. If you're not sure where your article would
fit, send me an e-mail ( jeanmaire9 at yahoo.com ) and I will decide where to
place it.
How to Enter: Start thinking about what persona you want to use, and which five
articles you want to make right now. Take a look at the categories. You
probably don't have time to start actually making the things right now, because
it's the Holidays, but realize that if you need to put some time into a handmade
gift for that special loved one, or simply because you're low on cash, just
entertain the idea that you could make an item that could also be used for your
Persona Pentathlon entry. For example, I like to brew some of my Elizabethan
Black Ale to pass around at 12th Night, and that could also be entered for an
Elizabethan persona who would have consumed said brew.
Please note: If you want to enter a research paper as one of your five
articles, it will have to be completed and turned in a minimum of 10 days prior
to Kingdom A&S. That is, I will need to have it by January 25th at midnight.
There are no exceptions. If you bring a research paper with you on the day of
KASF, it will NOT be accepted as one of your articles, and will not be judged.
This year every entrant will have a dedicated table just for their display.
Please bring a table cloth.
Both the Pentathlon winner and the Triathlon winner will receive a gift basket
containing contributions from members of the Order of the Laurel and the
Companions of the Pearl. These baskets have contained the glorious bounty of
Atlantia's artisans in the past, and I expect no less this year. I have seen
more than one set of hand blown feast goblets, inkle and tablet woven bands,
hand bound books, linen and wool fabrics, chocolate, research books, hand dipped
candles, and reproduction pottery, just to name a few. So, although it is a lot
of work and planning to enter these competitions, the prizes are worth the
effort.
