I forgot to say, Nataliia is the EK marshal of fence. From what she says
(elsewhere) the EK is as delighted with Pennsic as we here in the sunny
south.
I did not mean to step on Llwyd's toes, and should not have quoted his
"explanation" of why mail may not meet the corporate standard. I have seen
people wearing the mail sold by Darkwood, and the wire gauge is much thinner
than extant examples, and the ring size is much smaller. And the "texture" is
different because it is machine-welded rather than riveted. Thus, it can be
argued that it is not a sufficiently close reproduction of period mail. If any
riveted reproductions were to be accepted there would have to be standards of
wire gauge, material, ring size, and possibly riveting method. (The ring size
of the more conventional mail is too large to be tested with a drop tester or
mask punch. Indeed, the rings are probably large enough to admit a broken
foil.)
