[MR] Award Recommendations, Suggest Them

The Acorn online is a great tool to know when Their Majesties and/or Their Highnesses are going to be at in event.  Keep an eye on that and when you see one what is coming up close to your location, send another recommendation.  {For those in the Maryland/DC region there are two Investitures in September you could shoot for}

The only recommendation that doesn't help is the one not sent.  When sending in recommendations if you can give an estimated event or events that the recipient will be attending put that in your recommendation it will help in planning court business, should the award be decided on at that time.  Also, if you can get the proper spelling of their registered SCA name (not sure what it is ask your local herald they probably can help you out with it and/or find it for you), and their Mundane name it will help when that award has been presented for the Clerk of Precedence and Clerk Signet offices to get the proper information to scribes assigned the scrolls should that need to occur and the award filed in under the correct name in the Order of Precedence.

Speaking of the Order of Precedence, I can't count how many time I've used it as a tool when thinking about recommending a person.  Many times I'll look the person up and have a "You mean they don't have that?... How is that possible?" moment... I'm sure those moments have happened to all of us at one time or another... So, I'd like to thank Lady Glynis and Maestra Cassandra for their diligent work to maintain that valuable tool...

However, life does sometimes happen so awards may be given by delegation in absentia to Their Majesties representatives, be it Their Highnesses or The Baronage.  Awards usually given in absentia are at the discretion of Their Majesties or Their Excellencies respectively for Kingdom and Baronial level recognitions.  I received a Baronial award in absentia due to having just been released from a hospital stay two weeks prior and not being up to fighting "Snowmaggedon 2010".  

As His Excellency Rorik said, send a copy of your recommendations to your Baron and Baroness and keep a copy for yourself to refer back to.  The other reason it is good to send a copy to your Baron and Baroness is there could be a Baronial award that the person hasn't yet received for something similar... And it will allow them to review their lists and awards and make adjustments and additions... again the "you mean they don't have that?" moment pops up, as that person may have flown under their radar...stranger things have happened.

One thing to remember is when making a recommendation is to send a copy
o your local Baronage.  Barons and Baronesses are always asking for
ward recommendations.  I know it varies from Majesty to Majesty, but
aving a Landed Baron also recommend  a gentle for an award can't hurt
nd may help.
One thing that has been done in the past when scheduling the meeting
f recipient and Royalty becomes difficult is for the Royalty to
elegate the awarding to the Baronage where the worthy lives. This
ives the Royalty 16 (soon to be 17) times the opportunity to get an
ward to the right person. Of course the Peerage ranks should only be
andled by Their Majesties, but the Kingdom level awards could be
elegated to Their Majesty's direct representatives... the Baronage.
