Noble friends,
Just cataloged for the UVA libraries: THE EARLY MEDIEVAL CHURCH IN WALES
by David Petts (Stroud, Gloucestershire: History Press, 2009; ISBN
9780752441023, our call# ALDERMAN BR133 .W3 P48 2009). This is a very
interesting book on religious life in Wales from the Dark Ages to Edward
I's conquest in the 13th century. Petts manages to cover the general
history of the Church in Wales, church architecture, burial customs,
objects of worship, monasteries, and even includes a short section on
pilgrimage. The text is a survey, not a deep scholarly work, and it is
clear and pleasurable to read. The book is well illustrated with
drawings, photographs, building plans and maps. An excellent
bibliography is a valuable resource for deeper reading. If your interest
is in Wales before the conquest, this book is a must for your library.
Kind regards,
Lord Mungo Napier, Shire of Isenfir's Unofficial Librarian
