Greetings Friends,
Those of you who have already seen my post about this from the Bright
Hills list, please forgive the redundancy *g*
Now, some important details to fellow SCAdians who aren't familiar
with this event:
Since the preregistration deadline for this event has passed, they
seem to have shut down the link for camper registration, which would
show you some important details.
FIrst, this is a _juried_ event. If you plan to camp, your clothing
and kit must conform to the timeline set down for this event (French
and Indian War through Revolutionary War, possibly as far as the end
of the 18C). There is no space set aside for modern campers. Wood,
water and porta-pots are provided. You must take your trash with you
when you leave.
After the pre-registration deadline, the fee went up to $35 per
camper. And the hours when you can arrive to set up are severely
restricted after Friday night. I'll try to find my registration
packet for those details, or you can check with the Fort.
If you are planning to day-trip, and do not have the appropriate 18C
garb, please wear your mundane clothing. We would love to see you
there, really, but it's not like the SCA, where an _attempt_ at garb
is OK, those parameters are just too fuzzy for the 18C interpreters.
There are minimum clothing standards expected when folks dress up for
an 18C event. While nobody is going to stop you at the gate, it makes
it really hard to educate the public and new recruits when someone
shows up in their Civil War uniform or their Italian Renn or fantasy
pirate garb (we've seen it all!). And educating the public about the
time and site is why historic sites host events like this, and why
standards are a bit tighter. So please respect the people who make
this event possible.
And if you are the sort of person who just feels "naked" when you're
at an event and not in garb, I strongly recommend doing some research
before shopping and changing at the event. Not all the vendors there
carry garb made out of appropriate fabrics (although it has improved
over the years). And some are still making things like the "french
bodice", which is completely wrong, but would be OK for SCA use. I
don't recommend using the Distaff Sketch Book for reference as it's
dated and inaccurate. For women, Mara Riley's "Whatever Shall I Wear"
is much better.
If you have questions or would like some guidance regarding kit please
feel free to email me off-list, I'm fairly fluent in 18C.
Hope to see some of you there!
