I agree with your evaluation of the other fighter's reaction. I am
regularly surprised by how many times an offer of assistance to carry
things is declined. When it is, as with any other offer, the only proper
response is to respect their wishes. To tie in another thread, I find it
ironic that I will attempt to soundly beat a fighter on the field who
happens to be a woman, but then offer to carry her chair because she is.
