I have a "point of honor" question for the tavern...why do you turn a
fighter who is on his knees out of the sun? Because you do not want to place
him at an unfair disadvantage. But you won that advantage (through taking
his leg and the chance that caused him to be in that position- facing the
sun- in the first place). How is giving up another fairly won advantage
(such as an arm or leg) different? (and I mean that seriously, not in a
"picking a fight" kind of way...)
And please be kind when labeling such behavior as condescending. This
practice is (was?) common in other kingdoms (Caid springs immediately to
mind) and to my knowledge, condescension was never intended by those who
practiced it (indeed, many would be distressed to have it classified as
such). It was an attempt, as my friend Sir Halfdan used to say, to "not
shoot bunnies with bazookas". Now, to some it is arrogance, to others,
compassion. In Atlantia, such customs might currently be frowned upon, but
the discussion on the MR alone points out that the concept, at least, has
some merit among its people.
