[MR] Breasts!

oh no worries at all, im just curious. actually i know there are plenty of
people on this list that have participated, as a judge, in these "most
chivalrous fighter" prize/award situations. i know a lot of fighters have
very mixed feelings on the practice and as someone being judged by others i
would like to know what people use as their criteria when making these
decisions. i was asked at pennsic by a foreign queen to recommend a fighter
from a tourney i attended as the one i felt was the most chivalrous fighter.
i responded that the man who won proved, by his prowess, to be the most
chivalric fighter that day. she looked perplexed so i explained that i
thought she was using the term to mean someone knightly, behaving like a
knight, acting as a knight. i then offered that if she meant the modern
usage of the term i would have no answer for her. she asked what the modern
usage was and i said "courteous" and told her that i find it hard to
distinguish between courtesy and good sportsmanship when people are engaging
in hitting one another with sticks. i expect all fighters to be good sports
and to treat their opponents with regard. i cant wrap my head around what
someone could do on the field that would separate their actions from good
sportsmanship (something expected) to general courtesy (something sorely
lacking in society today). i then asked her if she had ever seen a fighter
win a tourney AND be named "most chivalrous" at the same time. we had a
long discussion about the whole notion of this and it was very interesting.

so, if youve been involved in judging the actions of fighters from the
sidelines (or as a participant in the tourney) and want to share your
thoughts please do. what did/do you look for? what have you seen that made
you feel "that fighter was the most chivalrous"? this has been around as
long as ive been in the sca and ive never really understood it but ive also
never really asked.

Your Grace,

Please do not think that I am avoiding the question, I am just striving to
provide you with the best answer to the question asked. This is the reason I
suggested speaking with Mistress Alianor, since she is the one that will be
awarding that prize, it will be up to her to determine what best embodies
those virtues and which fighter she feels does that best during this
tournament.

I am just the person doing the organizing this year.
