[MR] learning on borrowed armor

Highland Foorde does not have any 'official' loaner armor. However,
many of our members happen to have their 'seconds kit', stuff they
upgraded from but keep around 'just in case something breaks'. Or are
willing to step out of armor and let someone else wear it.

The tradition here, is that once you've come back for your second
practice, and are talking about coming to a 3rd, we are guiding you
towards armor purchase/creation.

At what point do you say "you really should get your own suit of armor and get well versed with that instead of borrowed armor"? If you get really good with armor that is not your own are you in a sense setting yourself up to fail?

Obviously you want to get people suited up in their own armor as soon as possible, but is it really bad to learn and maintain on borrowed armor - especially if a canton has several loaner suits that nobody's using.
