This changed a couple of years ago. All fighters on the field, be they
archers, siege engineers, scouts, or rattan wielding, are struck and
killed with exactly the same force blows.
The only variation that exists, is that combat archers & siege crew, are
allowed to wear only half-gauntlets, so that they can operate their
equipment, and take the extra risk of keeping their fingers from getting
hit upon themself.
Now, that being said. Most combat archers are more than willing, if
you catch them offguard and unable to defend themselves, to take a
courtesy tap (1/2 power shot) instead of a clubbing.
Many combat archers do choose often to wear much more 'minimal' SCA
armor, than a rattan fighter does, simply because since they are usually
not in the 'scrum', they are less likely to take repeated heavy blows.
To each fighter their own though. You should expect that you will take
a full power blow, and armor accordingly.
