[MR] WoW - Viking Ship Memorial Celebration

Greetings to the lists ... As always, please pass this information on to all who will welcome it.

Last year we began a tradition which many found helpful and interesting. This year we continue it for it has been a very hard year for us.

Taking a page from our brothers at Pennsic, a small Viking Ship was created. On it were placed small pieces of paper with the names of friends and loved ones who had passed ... who were missed ... or of struggles accounted victorious in our lives.

The ship was placed in the pond by the farm house after court on Saturday and set afire. As it burned, it was hoped that the moment of shared community with friends would help our hearts begin the journey of fondly remembering those we have lost in ways that would have made them happy and proud ... and that those who fight some demon will find the strength to defeat it and continue stronger and better for the fight.

So, immediately after court on Saturday we will gather on the battlefield, collect the papers then process to the pond where the ship will be launched ablaze.

There will be a recitation of a Viking Style poem and then people may leave as they like for meals, the Mistress Marion of Heatherdale concert or any of a number of other activities. The remains of the ship will be burnt at the bardic fire near the castle that night.
