[MR] Knights Templer question

Hi there,

Where would you go that the SCA is not at already? Europe? Israel? We've got folks all over the place...and you probably won't be the first one to ask the questions. If you're referring to the shield that was argent, a chief sable, I have seen it in other places besides that show.

I am not an expert on Templar Heraldry, but I don't know of ANY religious order of knighthood that allowed folks to use their personal devices, altho' (as has been already pointed out) certain officers in the orders would have peculiar heraldry for their offices (I am more familiar with this for the Teutonic Knights, where the Grand Master and his senior lieutenants had special devices).

The URL is the device that is being shown in shields in the dramatizations which had made me wonder... but I can see the other side of argument..if family will be giving the sons and fortunes to the order would they not of wanted to *brag* somehow by having family devices seen? This brings up another question..when shield is displayed on the sarcophagus (think there's another name) was the device shown there or somewhere else on stone effigy? I think I need a trip overseas lol but I'd drive tour guides nuts (hmmm there's a battles scadian vrs tour guide ).....
