FYI
Last session the MD House of Reps voted unanimously in favor of a Castle Doctrine type law that would not allow a criminal or their family to sue for damages if they were injured or killed while committing a crime. A chair person for the State Senate committee (Frosh from Mont. County) would not bring the bill up for a vote in the Senate. Thus stopping this type of lawsuit.

So if someone breaks into our home, we're required to flee and not fight?
So basically, the law is that we just let them come in and take whatever
they want; there's something wrong with that, imho.
If you break into my house, I should have the right to defend the things
I've worked hard for. To let criminals walk through the house like they're
walking through Wal Mart makes no sense. They weren't invited in; therefore
they committed a criminal act and I should be able to defend myself and my
property.

Not
to encourage diving into local mundane politics, but the Police are
considering charges in following longstanding precedent of harsh
discouragement of 'vigilantism' under any guise. Technically, State law
has been violated since the four students did not make every effort to
escape the premises when the intruder had been noticed.
