Thanks for the additional links.

All of the talk about this guy using a sword to defend himself (at least that's how it looks from article #2) reminded me to read one of the posters I have behind my desk.  It features an old German folk saying:

Der Gott, der Eisen wachsen liess; der wollte keine Knechte!  (The God that let iron grow, didn't want any slaves.)

This college kid wasn't going to see his hard earned belongings go to this loser, and was willing to fight to defend them.  More power to him.
