New Mexico (I am a former resident, and it's where I joined the SCA) has allowed deadly force to protect property by law since 1907, altho' it appears to be unevenly applied by the courts.

Friends,
I will put .02 more into this thread and then keep my peace. His Grace Logan is more or less correct, as far as I understand the law. This came up repeatedly when I was attending the police academy, and later in law enforcement classes I took at a local college. At that time, in NO state in the US (according to my instructors) could you use deadly force to defend personal property or one's dwelling. Period. Deadly force may be used only to defend one's own life or that of another when the threat is immediate and dire, and that is often a tricky point of law and the facts in the case. Let's hope none of us are ever put in such a situation.
Kind regards,
