my guess is that the sword guy was defending himself to the level that a man
should when his home is invaded.  break in to someones home and you should
be unable to leave on your own, ever.  at least thats the way i see it.

The Burgler wasn't wearing 16 gauge steel and I doubt if he's going to
call the shot light :)

I supposed though that a stick doesn't have the same amount of menace
as a sword.

But wouldn't someone stop attacking after his hand got cut off? So why
did the student keep hacking at the guy's chest? There were multiple
cuts to the guy's chest, not just one. Sounds to me like this burgler
was either crazy, or the student went a little nuts on the guy.
