Greetings
to those who do receive this missive from a most grateful Gisela,
event steward of War of the Wings IV,

On
this glorious day of rain for the fields I find myself still glowing
from the fantastic weekend just past. There is no way I can explain
how much it has meant to me to be involved with something that so
many enjoyed. To have been involved with the ~people~ who made it
happen. This has been such a rewarding experience I will value it for lessons learned and friends made all my life.

There
are so many I would like to thank and it is nearly impossible to do
so. Suffice it to say that the event was a success because of the work of members of my staff. I commend them to you all and I thank them for their support and hard work. They were amazing this year and continue to seek ways to improve the event as it grows. The staff listing can be found at
http://warofthewings.com/staff.html

Some
specific highlights …

Lord
Christoph of Grey crafted a Viking ship with the help and support of
his lady wife Lady Eleanor of Grey. She painted shields with the arms
of four people who have left us too soon … Duchess Arielle the
Golden, Lord Eogan Cu squire of Sir Roussel Tavernier , the Honorable
Lord Parlan
MacRonan of Trimaris friend of the Greys and Mistress Alienor Russeal
of Aethelmearc and the East and my dear friend. He built the boat.

Thus
we were able to remember and
celebrate the lives of our friends and
family members who had passed. Mistress Marion of Heatherdale graced
us with a song, the Viking prayer from the movie the 13th
Warrior was recited and someone sang another song as we stood on the
shore and wept together, watching the ship burn, the flames licking
the frame and the smoke rising to the stars in the clear night sky.

And here is the risk as I wish to name a few who went above and beyond the call ... please take this as no slight to any other who worked the event or attended but I believe these individuals merit special mention. Lord Manus O'Kean my deputy and land steward who never seemed to stop, Lord Raven McGuillicutty, my Rapier Marshal who was always there if something needed to be done most of it having nothing to do with Rapier, Lord Fergus Fletcher who wasn't even on my staff and ran garbage and stayed till the bitter end for clean up and Lady Catrine St. Loe my list field steward who exhibited grace in the face of discourtesy.

Now,
the battles were held to settle the fate of Baroness Graciella's.
Good Tzar Vladimir and his lady wife the Tzarina Kalisa defused all
possible question by declaring Graciella their Royal Cook and
their own ward.

There
were, however, 937 people on site who had clamored for War Points
through the course of the day and the tally of those points follows
herein … the final tally was Sacred Stone 14, Black Diamond 9.

According
to in
formation from the Mistress of the List Baroness Adeliza, there
were 74 rapier fighters on the field, 1 youth rapier fighter, 6 youth
heavy fighters and 129 heavies.

In
Youth competition the Div I tourney winner was William Garrett for
Black Diamond. Div. II tourney went to Sigisbert d'Gallia for Sacred
Stone and the Div III victor was Ewin for Sacred Stone. Both Div II
and III melees were carried by Sacred Stone as well.

Arts
and Sciences competitions lay out as follows: Eirik Gralokkr won the
best Archery item,;Jonathen Hawke the Best First Attempt; William the
Younger for Period Encampment; Caitlin MacDonoghue and Edmund
Hawkworthy for Best Modern Item Disguise for their pop-up cover;
William Garrett won for Best Use of Pink; and Catrine St. Loe for the
Best Art Produced On-Site

I have had the great honor of being part of this event from the inception almost four years ago. Thank you to all who have graced our land with their presence and laughter ... their friendship and hard work. I am the better person for it.

Thank you and be well.

~gise

You
will note, I hope, as you scan the point distribution that from a
military stand point Black Diamond won this engagement … it was the
Artisans and the Populace who held the day for Sacred Stone.
