I don't know if this will work on linen but I spray waterproofing spray on he bottoms of my dresses.I would suggest testing it on fabric scrap first but it has worked well keeping my trains and bottom of garb mud stain free from event and pennsic muds.This isn't a cleaning answer but may prevent future cleaning bills.
