While it has been used in my immediate family for years, clove oil for
earaches does work for me. It is the ingredient in some toothache medicines
as the binder for temporary fillings (different name listed on box that I
can't spell at this moment.).
However, it falls in the aspirin family and my doctor asked me if I was
allergic to aspirin when we last discussed herbal stuff I might be taking.
Yes, I discuss all herbal stuff with my very open minded doctor. I am on way
too many medications not to.

For those who fear them, you should read Vicks Vaporub, Listerene (sp?), and
most cough drops. Menthol is mint, Thymol is Thyme, Eucalyptus etc. There
are some herbal, essential oil treatments no one would think twice about
using. Asprin is from willow. Digitalis is foxglove. Herbalism is
medicine and should be treated as such. You shouldn't start an asprin
regimin without doctor supervision, and many medications have serious, even
fatal side-effects when taken with certain herbs or medicins. Anything you
come in contact with should be evaluated. As a pharmcay technician in
training I am getting the starch scared out of me at how easy a fatal drug
interaction can happen. Even certain foods like cheese and milk can have
reactions. Always consult with a doctor, they get payed the big bucks for a
reason. I will now go stand in my corner, starchless.
