[MR] Book of interest to Scadians

This is actually the third book in a series (with more to come) from the
J Paul Getty Museum and The British Library.  The books of this series
focus on specific themes in medieval manuscripts.  

The other 2 books already out in print are:
Beasts Factual and Fantastic by Elizabeth Morrison
Faces of Power and Piety by Erik Inglis.

I have all of these books and recommend them for anyone with an interest
in manuscripts.  Not only are there detailed images of the subjects as
hand but plenty of history and explanations as well!

Here is a delightful new book which just arrived in the UVA libraries: 
IMAGES IN THE MARGINS by Margot McIlwain Nishimura (ISBN 9780892369829; 
UVA call # FINE ARTS ND3343.4 .M38 2009). This is charming collection of

small illuminations from the margins of medieval manuscripts, presented 
enlarged and in full color. There are many whimsical, and serious, 
illustrations here, ranging from biblical scenes to rabbits turning the 
tables on hounds with bows and arrows. There are some fine examples of 
costuming among the illustrations, including rich colors and 
considerable detail. This book is a must for the library of any Scadian 
scribe, a worthy resource for costumers, and just plain fun for the rest

of us.
