Primarily due to the fact that you cannot patent what nature produces. You 
can patent the process used to remove the oil from a plant, you cannot 
patent the oil itself. So you big money pharmaceutical companies are not 
going to pursue that avenue...

I should also add that more and more information is coming out about 
essential oils even though there are very few professionals getting paid to 
research it.
