hey guys, the only real treatment for surface contusions is ice (to shrink
he tissue and help slow the leaking of blood into the surrounding tissue)
nd moderate pressure (to help the leaking blood vessels basically seal up
nd lose less blood).  the swelling following the trauma that causes
ruising also causes edema (inflammation) which can make the bruise look a
ot worse.  so, if you take a blow and are worried about the discoloration
hich usually follows apply some ice and pressure for about 15 minutes and
ou should see no real discoloration and a lot less swelling.  and, of
ourse, dont take any medications that contain anti-inflammatory as these
hin the blood which obviously would make the bleeding worse (unless of
ourse you are on prescription medication).
