No, but thanks for the tip. As I remember the image, it was a portrait
of a high churchman in red, a Cardinal or possibly a pope. He was seated
on the left (viewer's left, that is) of the frame, with a small table to
the right. There were several objects on the table, including a pair of
spectacles, which (as I remember then) were bifocals. I believe the date
of the painting was around 1600. I thought I originally saw it in the
Smithsonian about three years back, but a search of the bound volumes
for the last ten years turned up nothing.
Maybe I dreamed this.
