oh certainly, there is something to be said about the mental effect that
homoeopathic treatments cause. however, just like we know the whole
echinacea fad or those "airborne" nasal spray/pills "developed by a high
school teacher" do absolutely nothing we should always be cautious when we
decide to try snake oil remedies over actual medicine or actual medical
treatment. on the subject of bruises (since that was the topic at hand)
there are some very sound medical treatments for contusions and i think that
if people are genuinely concerned on how to treat those injuries they should
stick with what is medically proven to work (except donal and me, we think
bruises look cool!). and ive known a couple of people that suffered true
migraines and i agree with you having seen the amount of pain those things
cause, anything that wont hurt and makes you feel better (even if its purely
psychosomatic) is a good thing and there is no denying the occasional "mind
of matter" aspects that can occur. ;^)

Makes you smell good while you're waiting to feel better?

Seriously though, I've had a couple of different doctors through the years
that said some things fall into the catagory of "won't hurt & makes you feel
better". I think the best advice came from my internalest (sp? I mean a "
tummy" MD): "don't get too invested in any one thing. Just when you need it
most, it'll stop working for you.". My migraines have shown me the wisdom in
what he said.

Very few of the folk remedies have been studied, but when they are they are
usually found to be of some sort of real help (psychosymatic or "at least
I'm doing SOMEthing").
