Actually, this point here is something that I have also used in the past, there was one particular event that folks looked forward to doing this every year....
A couple of the merchants that always came to this particular event made some beautiful leather work, and would always offer a piece to the Volunteer Coordinator for this. ((Of course, we also made it clear that merchants who did donate to this got a reduction in their Site fee, if they paid one at all))
Until the next,
Yours in service,
Cap'n Jack Black of Flint

Seneschal, Barony of Hidden Mountain

Another suggestion for the event (if the members of the Tavern have not been over burdened by this topic so far, smile) might be to make a auction for those who volunteer. One method that has been used in other areas is to ask for donations (Merchants are usually amazingly generous in this area...as an event steward, I would have been lost without their support) and hold a raffle. Each hour of volunteer time earns one ticket. (Same can be used for any non-martial activity). It keeps the non-fighters out of the war point pool, and still encourages participation among the attendees.
Just adding some chaff to the wheat, smile.
Molly
