I have to agree with Aedan about the roads.. Oft I would start on the road
only to find myself later walking through someone's camp; and I know I
wasn't the only one, because many a time there were folks wandering into our
camp, lost. A possible solution is to use surveyor's tape sans cord next
year and maybe name the "roads". I didn't park our vehicle so didn't see the
situation Aedan is referring to, but something I've seen other larger events
do is to have several parking areas and parking stewards with each area
divided into rows via rope or tape.

Here's some more feedback for you ;-)

Most of the event, from my point of view was just fine. But one issue I ran
into over and over (sometimes literally) was caused by problems with the
site layout. Which surprises me given the tremendous size of that field.

I'm not sure how things got to the point they ended up at, but I know a
number of folks spent a lot of time trying to fix the poor field layout all
day Friday to little avail. If you were able to look at it from the air,
one end was nicely anchored on the fence surrounding the castle. But as you
moved toward where the royal pavilion was, the field width shrank
considerably. Combine that with absolutely no exclusion zone around the
field and the ability to conduct combat archery during the fighting was
severely curtailed on the armored fort battle and completely eliminated for
the armored field battle.

With the tents so close and almost no boundary markings for the field, I had
to correct (read "get them out of the way quickly") gentles that were trying
to cross the combat field during the morning's town battles not realizing
that while the melee combat was well to their right, there were siege
engines firing not 20' to their left and they were in the middle.

In a similar vein, there was confusion moving around the camping areas as it
seemed that the roads weren't always clearly marked. I'm very grateful for
the paths between roads to allow easier access to/from the parking area, but
they could have been wider and better marked. They were sometimes hard to
see, especially in the dark and didn't always line up from block to block.
The "lining up" problem is understandable when you're trying to fit groups
in but it made finding the next section of path even more important.

The parking area in front of troll was not well thought out and nearly
impossible to pull into with any reasonably sized vehicle once there some
cars already in it. The way the opening was laid out, as you approached
troll you had to turn 180 degrees to pull into the parking spaces to check
in. Again, there is a *ton* of space on that field, why not be a bit more
generous with it? A long strip of parking spots perpendicular to the road
so that each car approaching troll can pull directly into a temporary spot
for check in makes more sense to me.

Thanks to everyone that put on a good event and here's hoping it keeps
improving.
