[MR] WoW points

Unless I'm badly mistaken, the scoring system in place at WOW is no different from that used at Gulf Wars or Pennsic. I've heard the same complaints from people at those events. Amazingly enough, they continue to show up.

As long as the event continues to be fun, people will show up. That's why Crusades eventually fell by the wayside... it stopped being fun. For a variety of reasons. If it starts up again, and it's fun, who knows? Maybe I'll make that ten hour drive I made for years to support a kingdom event.

In all the years I've made Gulf Wars, and Crusades, and WOW, and etc., I have yet to hear one person say they weren't coming back because they didn't like the way the points were added up. If they did say that, I suspect it would end up having to do with the fact that they didn't have fun at that particular war, and they're looking for a scapegoat.

BTW, Willie... I wasn't directly involved in this year's war at all, so I don't take any credit for this year's success. I'm quite aware that it took just less than a thousand people showing up to make this year what it was. To me, having points added up in this sort of situation is like a track meet... I might win the 100 meter dash and you might win the 440 hurdles, and my guys might win the 4 x 400 meter relay, and etc, and the points at the end just tell who won the most events over all. They don't change the fact that you won the 440 hurdles. Same thing here... everybody who cares knows who won the heavy fighting. Everybody who cares knows who won the fencing. Everybody who cares knows who won the A&S. et cetera. Since I wasn't involved in the fencing, for instance, whether they won or lost doesn't change whether I personally had fun. Being told at the end of the day that my side finished with more points doesn't change the fact that we got skunked on the heavy field. But really, neither of those changed whether I had fun or not.

Regards

Jonathan Blackbow

And when concerns are raised telling them simply “anybody who doesn't like the scoring system that they start and run their own war.” Is not a way to inspire folks to continue to support YOUR BARONYS event.

I was thinking this as I read over Lady Gisela's report before I ever got to Duke Logan's missive. I had the pleasure of serving the barons of Black Diamond for many years during which time I had a very close relationship with Sacred Stone. I have had the pleasure of serving the barons of Sacred Stone for nearly four years now. I tell this to establish that I love both baronies dearly but my loyalty now belongs to Sacred Stone. Still, I feel that awarding war points for attendance, volunteering, and class attendance seems unfair when the war is always held in the lands of Sacred Stone and the hosting barony is much larger. I'm sure the intention was to give everyone a chance to participate in the war, but these war points just don't seem right to me It is the responsibility of the hosting barony to create as even a playing field as possible.
