[MR] Length of term for Atlantian royalty

Greetings unto the tavern,
 
Please forgive a question from a relative newbie... why is the term for Atlantian royals only six months and not a year? It would seem to me (not that I'm an experienced judge, or anything) that a year would give the royalty a better opportunity to accomplish whatever their goals were...
 
Can anyone please explain to me the reason(s) for the six month term? Thank you!
