WOO-HOO! The Norse Scroll Blank competition is going to be the sponsored
competition for February in the House Corvus Decameron 2010! So, get those
pens and brushes cranked up!

Details on the Decameron are:

Each month in 2010, House Corvus is sponsoring an A&S prize at one or more
SCA events. The first, second, and third place winners in any given A&S
competition at the event will be awarded a Decameron Purse. The physical
purse itself is the only prize actually given by the SCA event. Western
tradition maintains, however, that it's bad luck to give a purse or wallet
that is empty. Therefore, wholly privately, and not affiliated with the SCA
in any way, House Corvus will place a first, second, and third place "award"
inside each purse to encourage the continuance of that art.

In addition, at Atlantian Twelfth Night in January 2011, an overall Grand
Prize weighted drawing will take place of all of 2010's Decameron winners.
For each First Place win, three (3) chances will be entered in that person's
name in the drawing. For each Second Place win, two (2) chances will be
entered in that person's name in the drawing. For each Third Place win, one
(1) chance will be entered in that person's name in the drawing. The Grand
Prize will be something quite special.

> The Triton Principal Herald will be sponsoring a Norse scroll blank

> competition at Ymir! Just like last year, the lovely Lady Livia Zanna

> has offered to coordinate and judge said competition.

>

> Per Livia's rules, Norse in this instance means from the areas of

> Ancient Scandinavia, which encompassed Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the

> Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland. While most sources say the word

> "Norse" refers primarily to a period anywhere from 1700BC to 1066AD, we

> have opened up the competition to the full SCA period, because there

> are some fantastic fifteenth and sixteenth century illuminations from

> those areas, that could provide more inspiration, since early period

> manuscripts from those areas are few and far between. Therefore, the

> date range is from way back then to our usual cut-off of 1600.

>

> Each item entered will be judged individually, but the entrant's total

> score will be the cumulative total of each of their items. The

> emphasis on this competition is quality over quantity. Also a

> reminder, please remember that for an scroll to be valid and useable

> for court, it must meet Atlantian conventions as regards the colors

> used for the award badge, and space left for heraldry on awards that

> convey Awards/Grants of arms. All entries will become the property of

> the Crown after the competition.

>

> Any further questions, please contact Lady Livia directly at

>

> Looking forward to a longboat's worth of entries!
