July 11, Elchenburg Castle Site, King's Assessment. His Majesty has decreed an assessment of the troops in preparation for Pennsic War. If you have never been to Pennsic and specifically the archery range at Pennsic then you do not fully appreciate the might of Atlantian archers. Other kingdoms tremble in fear and/or fight for the right to have us shoot with them in the Masters Tournament. On July 11 at the Elchenburg Castle Site I will be holding archery assessment with Pennsic like war point shoot stations. Even if you are unable to attend Pennsic this year come out. You will get a chance to test your skills on shooting stations like those encountered at Pennsic and Gulf Wars, plus it's "another great day for archery".

Poeta Atlantiae will be sponsoring a contest for novice poets at the Storvik/Dun Carriag combined Novice Tournament/Challenge of the Heart event, to encourage those new to the art. Most of us have written poetry at some point in our lives, even if only upon threat of failing English Lit. So please feel free to consider yourself a novice if you have *practiced* the art of poetry for less than a year. If you've only ever done poetry because it was required, or your last voluntary efforts were during your "bohemian phase" in high school *coughcough* years ago, please consider yourself a novice and enter.
Judging will be as follows:
Quality of construction (regular meter, rhyme, etc): 10
Good use of imagery, overall style: 10
SCA appropriateness: 10
Documentation of period form: 5
Judge's discretion: 5
Prize to be a copy of "Through a Glass Window Shines the Sun," a collection of medieval poetry, and a copy of Compleat Anachronist 67, "Ars Poetica Societatis," a handbook on period poetic forms.
In service,
- Teleri the Well-Prepared, Poeta Atlantiae

Hail Good gentles of the tavern!? In the hustle and bustle of recent weeks, I was amiss at getting the class information submitted for the offerings by my band of merry musicians and dancers.? At Sapphire Joust this weekend, the following offerings will be held in MJZ's camp on Saturday.
Middle Eastern
Drumming and Dancing Classes
Hosted by: Min
el-J?bal el-Zarr?a
?
2pm: ?Basic
beginner Middle Eastern Dance:? Dancing and enjoying yourself!? Learn to dance, and love it!? Find your inner dancer and let them out.? Basic techniques and foundations that most
forms of Middle Eastern dance are built upon. What is period and what isn?t,
and how to tell.(1 hour)
?
3pm: Basic Doumbek rhythms for beginners.? Learn the rhythms you?ll hear at haflas,
jalsahs, and around the fire.?
?
4pm:? Dancing/Drumming around the fire,
Jalsah, or Hafla!? Learn the ins and outs
of dancing or drumming? with other people
and with live musicians.? What movements
and techniques are best suited for each environment.? Communication with musicians and dancers, and
with those watching.? Make every time you
dance or drum a fun and enjoyable experience, learn to have fun with it! (1
hour)
?
Classes will be held in
the MJZ camp on Saturday afternoon
Please bring water and
wear comfortable clothing
Hafla on the List Field
Saturday night facilitated by MJZ
Stop by camp when it
is
open to say hello, share information, discuss all things ME,
play music, and jam.? All instruments
welcome!
Come by and wish Lord Waian McDonald a happy birthday!
Ask Saahira about the
Folkloric Dance Exposition to be held at Pennsic this year.
