Today we are going to touch on the different types of Heraldry you can submit.
Device. A heraldic design that uniquely represents the person or group that owns it. A person who has not been awarded arms may register personal armory as a device. This device will become arms when the person receives an award, grant, or patent of arms. The distinction between arms and a device is not tracked by the College of Arms. See also Armiger, Arms.
Lucien's Digest Version: A visual symbol to state "This is me".
Badge. A piece of armory used by an individual or group to identify possessions, retainers, members, or other items. A badge is different from a device, which is used solely by its owner (or the owner's herald). See also Fieldless Armory.
Lucien's Digest Version: A visual symbol that states "This is mine" or "I have been awarded " or even "I am apprenticed/protege'd/squired to".
Sincerely,
Lucien
