[MR] help with tallow candels

I recall that tallow candles always smell, no matter how refined, which is why
beeswax was preferred. There are other natural waxes that can be used
(bayberry, but that's a new world plant). Or scented oils can be added. I
think tallow also tends to be smokey.

In other words, it's an interesting experiment or project, but probably not
one you'll care to make a habit.

know that doesn't help you, sorry. But what I do remember about the article is
that it was cooked outdoors and was rendered several times before the tallow
was pure enough for candles. I *think* I remember reading that it should be
clear, which would turn pure white when it cools. But it was *strongly*
recommended to do your heating & rendering outdoors, due to the odor. I
wouldn't be surprised if outdoors is also a safety measure, since flashing is
certainly a possibility if it gets too hot.

area Duke University has it) , you should find something.
