Friends,

While cataloging another web site maintained by the New York Public
Library, I ran across these interesting electronic resources:

UNIFORMS AND REGIMENTAL REGALIA: THE VINKHUIJZEN COLLECTION OF MILITARY
COSTUME ILLUSTRATION (
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/explore/dgexplore.cfm?topic=all&col_id=206
). While most of the images here are well after our SCA time period,
there are many views of knights and men-at-arms as well. I cannot vouch
for the accuracy of the medieval images, but they are well worth
exploring. Sadly for me, Scotland is not listed in the countries covered
by this collection.

PICTURE COLLECTION OF THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY (
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/explore/dgexplore.cfm?topic=all&col_id=482
). Sections on costume, shoes, and jewelry are particularly interesting
and are broken down by era. I liked the music section on bagpipes, but
then I do have certain peculiar tastes.

MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS FROM WESTERN EUROPE (
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/explore/dgexplore.cfm?topic=all&col_id=173
) has many plates showing human figures in costume.

For you dancers, how about 500 YEARS OF ITALIAN DANCE: TREASURES FROM
THE CIA FORNAROLI COLLECTION (
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/explore/dgexplore.cfm?topic=all&col_id=522
)?

Finally, here is the general page for all the various collections:
http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/explore/dgexplore.cfm . Many
of these sections may have material that may be of use to fellow Scadians.

Kind regards,

Mungo Napier, Archer of Mallard Lodge
