OK I've been asked what I meant by "braiding" so here are the ones I
can recall off-hand;
Round Braid
Square Braid
Diamond Braid
turks head (4x3 or is it 3x4, but it's been so long I'd need a
refresher on that one)
Spiral braid (my own braid that my brother and I came up with years ago)
Projects that I've done;
lanyards
drawstrings (like say for the purses with the huge string and nearly
drag on the ground, or the geek's dice bag)
Braclets
buttons
Belts
Rings (better done with metal usually called a puzzle ring, I think
but I'm no jeweler)
keyrings
I think it could also be used to make a favor attachment for a belt,
I'm used to using the plastic string stuff, sometimes called "gimp" I
still have something like 12-20 rolls (a roll is about 91meters) or
partial rolls left including the kids favorite the green glow in the
dark, not sure if I can find the hooks that I used to use I know I
have at least a few left, but then again they are so cheap (and I
don't mean cost all though they were that as well). But the same
techniques can be used with any medium like leather, rope, or cloth as
period examples.
As for Kumihimo, sadly I'm still learning that myself and have yet to
get my hands on a marudai (if there are any wood workers that want to
try their hand at making one however.....) or any other equipment for
that style. As for weaving or basketweaving I've not done that on
well over a decade (gees I feel old now), So it's not something I feel
comfortable teaching anyone.
