Good Day Everyone...
Some of you are at Pennsic, Some of your are returning and yet some still are on their way or preparing to go up to Pennsic presently..... For those who have returned and those who are remaining in the Barony I send this message to you.
The Equestrian Community is growing. As we enter in each new year we require special safety considerations that are inherent when horses are involved.
On the 1st of August 2009 at Little River trails Campground, with the help of the canton of Attillium, the Lance of Saint Anthony will host an official practice. The practice is designed to introduce the rules and requirements for "ground crew" which is a required entity on the field when we compete at any level. Further authorizations are available but must be carefully coordinated with the current owners of horses and your present abilities.
Equestrian Practice will take place in two arena's. Fighter Practice will take place under shade trees close to the pavilion.
The liability class will begin at 9 am on 1 August 2009. You may arrive at the site as early as Friday but horse activities will not begin until Saturday 9 am and end at 4 pm on 1 August as per our insurance. Horses and riders will have already groomed and tacked their mounts warming them up as you learn about specific issues and techniques required to serve as a ground crew. Once the class is complete a practical explanation of equipment, both on and off the field will be discussed. Proper hand off of individual lances, swords etc will be demonstrated as well as placed into practical work.
The equestrian games will be explained, performed and demonstrated. Your individual part of this is crucial for success. After each new ground crew member is rotated into each position,....a short break will take place....(lunch)
The second half of the practice will encompass individual authorizations.
The Lance of Saint Anthony will host an evening dinner (rotisserie chicken) contact Sorcha at dcauld at yahoo.com, to coordinate food etc.
A large canopy will be erected with a fire pit for friendship, music and story telling.
As this is an Official Practice Garb is the norm. Please be aware of the difficulties of riding in a dress / kilt etc....
Sweat pants with a tabard will almost always fit all occasions.
Proper foot wear is just as important.
Most important item to bring with you is a smile and a sense of friendship....
We are looking forward to seeing all of you Saturday Morning. Please be as prompt as possible. We would like to get the class out of the way when it is cooler in the morning.
The magic and splendor Equine brings to events enhance the opportunities for us all to view and be a part of.
