I am glad you brought this up (smile). This discussion over ringed
stars is cheap entertainment and I am glad we have this on the
Internet. No doubt, this is better than Cable Television at times.
Reading this discussion is almost like watching a rodent run on a
spinning wheel, you look at it and say " that is so Cute".
Devices in the SCA are pretty interesting and this discussion may
encourage some people to visit the local Herald, something good may
come of it. As a herald, I love working on devices and the glow in
the eyes of people when they see a device that represents them is well
worth doing the job. Sad to say, we lack enough people in
Charlesbury Crossing to really warrant having a Herald.
The lack of people is what so many fail to see in view. Look
around the SCA and observe the faces in the crowds. Most are old
fogies like me who have been around to long to stop. If you ever get a
chance to enjoy Old photos of the SCA, you will YOUNG people all
around. This is a very different day.
In my sick little mind, I want to recruit others like me who are
having too much of a good time to stop. The SCA is relatively cheap
to play and I should add this inexpensive play all depends on how much
time and effort one is willing to put into it. I am learning to sew
after 20 plus years in the SCA, that doe snot say too much about baron
Achbar, but hey, I was too busy having a good time drumming and make
more bad puns than I should be allowed to make. The SCA is like so
many friggin hobbies you get out of it what you put into it. Now, if
you have people on the Kingdom's Email list having a fun filled
discussions about symbols;of faith and the rules around them, then
have at it.
The title of the thread is called Perception...not just the facts.
Think about it this way, give the public more than just a symbol of a
pagan religion to look at. Back in the day a Guy named Lord Logan
hand several police cars stop in front of his mothers condo in
Charlotte, blue lights blazing and urgent. When Lord Logan explained
what were doing and fighter practice was not a Gang Fight, the cops
understood. They has seen Festival in the Park in Charlotte, NC and
knew that the SCA was all about. Lord Logan then gave the police
officers tips on Billy clubs use, they really appreciated that. That
was a positive perception. That is a fact. The next time you see
that guy formerly known as Lord Logan, ask him about this incident, he
will thank you for it. This is what I am talking about! ( smile)
