Director of Policy

*This full-time position reports directly to the President in the C3
Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Send cover letter and resume to

*Tasks:*

Will include, but may not be limited to:**

   - Tracking current legislation and policy as it relates to colorectal
   cancer, including appropriations, access to care and regulatory issues.
   - Making recommendations on legislative, political, and grassroots
   advocacy strategies.
   - Developing and maintaining access to decision makers at all levels of
   government.
   - Coordinating C3’s annual Call-on Congress grassroots training and lobby
   day, including development of all materials and training curricula.
   - Using social media such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs, to communicate
   C3’s policy agenda to a broad audience on a regular basis.
   - Recruiting grassroots advocates and managing the grassroots advocacy
   program, including writing action alerts, planning and leading grassroots
   lobby days, and communicating regularly with advocates.
   - Serving as Chair of the Grassroots Action Committee and supervising
   volunteer advocates assigned to specific tasks or functions.
   - Representing C3 on key coalitions related to cancer funding and policy
   and regulatory affairs.

*Qualifications and Experience:*

   - 4 – 6 years experience on health care policy, government relations
   and/or political/issue campaigns. Experience with the health appropriations
   process and regulatory issues.
   - Ability to write for business and for the masses. Blog (online writing)
   experience a plus.
   - Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office, email and the Internet.
   - Bachelor’s degree required.

   Excellent attention to detail.
   - Ability to work both as part of a team and on own initiative.
   - Ability to work well with remote colleagues and volunteers (via
   telephone, email, conferencing technology, etc).
   - Reliable.
   - Outstanding organizational skills.
   - Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when
   dealing with terminally-ill patients.
   - Knowledge of, or a personal connection to cancer is helpful, but not
   required.
