Greetings unto the populace of Atlantia!
Permit me to introduce myself. I am William Scolari of the Barony of Bright Hills. I recently taught a class at the University of Atlantia on Natural Philosophy. This, along with discussions with my Baroness, led me to contemplate whether or not it would be worthwhile forming a Science Guild in our fair Kingdom. I have noticed that the Arts and Sciences exhibits and competitions are almost exclusively “arts” and no science. (Not that there is anything wrong with the Arts, of course!) The purpose of the Science Guild would be to bring more focus to the efforts of those of us who are interested in the sciences as they were practiced in the Middle Ages.

I know that there is a Yahoo Group called Medieval-Sciences – Medieval Sciences in the SCA, which doesn’t seem to be very active, and there are Atlantian A&S Links to Science and Engineering Topics. I do not wish to step on anyone’s toes or supplant these efforts. My goal is to unify these separate efforts and perhaps energize the efforts of those of us interested in the sciences.

At this point, I would like to get some feedback from fellow Atlantians as to your interest level, and whether or not you think the formation of a Science Guild would be worthwhile. If the response is positive, I would propose that we might meet at Pennsic (time/place TBD) or a post-Pennsic event and discuss things further.

My mundane contact information follows if you wish to contact me off list.

Thank you.
v/r
Dr. Bill Ford (BTW – My mundane Ph.D. is in physics and my SCA interest is primarily in natural philosophy.)
