I carry a backpack style purse...it's great for in public restrooms because I can leave it on and not have to worry about if it needs to hook or balance. :-)

The nurse in me cringes when people talk of putting their purses on the
floor of a public bathroom....please don't...you wouldn't believe what lives
on the floor....ugh.
If it's a regular 2 hook coat hanger, I put mine on the bottom hook...then
if they reach over it won't be as easy to grab.
