[MR] a note on award recommendations

we have received a number of recommendations (thank you!!!) this reign. i
would like to point out a few things that would helpful.

we often get these:

1. bob has been helpful at every event held in our canton/barony since he
first started playing in the sca

ok, so how long has he been "playing". there is a big difference between
the three events held in your canton/barony for the one year he has been
around and the three events held in your canton/barony for the five years he
has been around. have you recommended him to your baron/baroness for this
service? helpful? in what way? there is a big difference between setting
up the baronial day shade and being the reservationist or running the gate.
the former takes 30 minutes while the latter consumes dozens of hours.

this is just one of many examples that make it difficult to determine what,
if any, type of recognition is deserved. we spend a lot of time searching
the op on recommendations because we simply are not given enough
information. we often find that someone is, as in the example above,
setting up the baronial day shade and when we forward that information to
their baron/baroness we find out that they didnt even know who had been
doing it for them. dont forget about your local baronial heads when
thinking about someones service/accomplishments. often times a person has
not yet achieved a level of service worthy of kingdom recognition but
certainly enough to warrant consideration on a more local level. its common
also that they have far surpassed the "bar" for that local recognition but
their baron/baroness simply havent been aware of it. again, dont forget
your baronial heads. you can never give too much information when
recommending someone. remember, what you are writing is akin to a sales
presentation. your intimate knowledge of what a person has done and how
much their works have touched you is something that we simply may not have
seen nor experienced. share it with us (or your local baron/baroness). it
really can make a difference.

regards

logan and esa
